What Roster is
A directory for finding people to play online multiplayer games with. You list the games you play, other people search for a game, and you decide who gets your gamertag. It works the same whether you are one player looking for others or a group looking to fill spare places.
Roster is not connected to any game, console maker, or platform. Game and platform names appear here only to describe what people play.
It is operated from New Zealand. The contact address for anything on this page is rosterplatform@gmail.com.
How old you need to be
13 or older. You confirm this with a checkbox when you sign up.
That confirmation is taken at your word. Roster does not verify anyone's age, and there is no parental consent process. If you are under 13, don't sign up.
Your account
- One account per person.
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
- Your username is public. Don't pretend to be someone else, and don't pick a name meant to mislead people.
- Choose the region you normally play in. Your region affects where you appear in player searches, and you can change it again after a 10-minute cooldown.
Gamertags
Your gamertag for a game goes to someone only after you have accepted their request for that game. Accepting one request does not release your gamertag for any other game.
Once you have given it to someone, you cannot take it back from them. They have it, the same as if you had typed it into a chat. Accepting a request is a decision to share.
Messages
Roster Pro members can send someone a short intro. It arrives as a message request, which you can accept or decline — whether you have Pro or not. Until you accept, they cannot send anything else. Once you accept, you can both reply.
- Declining is final: they cannot send you another intro.
- An intro nobody answers expires after 30 days.
- Messages are text only. Links are shown as plain text and are never clickable, so check a link before you copy it anywhere.
- You can turn off Allow message requests on your profile. Conversations you have already accepted keep working.
- Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. If a conversation is reported, the person who runs Roster can read it — see Privacy.
Don't use messages to harass, spam, advertise, or pressure anyone into sharing a gamertag or anything else. Accepting a message request never shares your gamertag.
How to behave here
- Don't harass, threaten, or abuse anyone.
- Don't put anything in your username that you would not want a stranger to read.
- Don't use Roster to advertise, sell, or recruit.
- Don't collect other people's gamertags in bulk, by hand or with a script.
- Don't try to get around blocking, the request limits, or anything else the site does to keep it civil.
Blocking
You can block any account from their profile or from a conversation. Blocking stops requests and messages in both directions and hides each of you from the other in search. It is quiet — the person you blocked is not told. You can undo it from Account settings.
Reporting someone
There is a report option on every profile and every conversation. Reporting from a conversation lets the person who runs Roster read that conversation. Reports go only to the person who runs Roster, the account you reported is not told, and you can withdraw a report while it is still open.
What happens if someone breaks these rules
Reports go to one person — whoever runs Roster. There is no moderation team and no guaranteed response time.
Block first, report second. Blocking works immediately, hides you and them from each other, stops requests both ways, and doesn't tell them you did it. It doesn't wait for anyone. If someone is bothering you, block them now and report them after.
When a report is read, two things can happen: no action is taken, or the account is removed. There is currently no warning or suspension system, so those are the only outcomes.
If your account is removed and you think that's a mistake, email rosterplatform@gmail.com. The same person will read it.
Rules the site enforces
These are not requests. The site applies them automatically.
- Up to 20 gamertag requests sent per account per day, or 100 with Roster Pro.
- One open request at a time for the same game on the same person's profile.
- You cannot send a request to yourself.
- Up to 10 new conversations started per account per day, and up to 20 intros waiting for a reply at once.
- Up to 20 messages a minute and 500 a day per account.
- Intros up to 300 characters; messages up to 1000.
- Requests cannot be sent to someone who has turned requests off, or whose profile is switched off.
- Some regions can only be searched from inside them, so people aren't listed to the whole world without expecting it.
Roster Pro and refunds
Roster Pro is a one-off purchase, not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel.
- Within 14 days of buying it, you can ask for a full refund for any reason. Email rosterplatform@gmail.com.
- After 14 days, refunds for changing your mind are not offered.
- If Roster closes for good within 30 days of your purchase, that purchase is refunded in full without you having to ask.
- Refunds go back through the payment method you used. Pro stays on your account until the refund is confirmed, and is removed after.
None of this limits any refund, remedy or right you have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act or any other law that applies to you.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Account settings. You will be asked to confirm, and there is no waiting period. What it removes is set out on the Privacy page.
You can also switch your profile off instead, which takes you out of search without deleting anything.
Whether the site is up
Roster is a small project, not a company with staff on call. It may be slow, unavailable, or taken down for maintenance without notice, and features may change or be removed as it develops.
Nothing here promises the site will be available when you want it, and you should not rely on Roster as the only place your gaming contacts exist.
When these terms change
The date at the top is how changes are announced. If it has moved, something here has been reworded. There is no email notice.
Getting in touch
Email rosterplatform@gmail.com for anything at all. To report a fault rather than a person, use the same address with “issue report” in the subject.
